The Citi ThankYou program offers one of the first transfer bonuses we’ve seen in a while.
Citi Many thanks to Air France-KLM Flying Blue Bonus
The US Citi ThankYou program offers a 25% bonus when you convert points into Air France-KLM Flying Blue miles by April 16, 2021.
Points are usually transferred at a 1: 1 ratio. During this promotion, you can convert 1,000 Citi points into 1,250 Flying Blue miles. In general, you can expect the transfers to be instant.
There is no limit to how many times you can use this promotion and the bonus is firmly anchored in the transfer ratio, which means that you can earn the bonus on multiple transactions.
The last time we saw a transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou to Air France-KLM Flying Blue was in the summer of 2019, almost two years ago. Most transferable point currencies didn’t offer many transfer bonuses during the pandemic so it’s nice to see these return.
Should you transfer Citi points to Flying Blue?
Flying Blue offers dynamic and roughly distance based award pricing these days. While I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favorite frequent flyer programs, it’s one that I use quite a bit.
In addition to the great value that the Flying Blue Promo Awards can offer, Flying Blue also has the benefit of giving you access to more award seats when traveling on Air France and KLM Metal.
In other words, Flying Blue makes more award seats available to members of its own program than members of affiliate programs. Even if Flying Blue’s rates aren’t the best, there are situations when it can make sense to book through Flying Blue (although with all of the Delta SkyMiles devaluations we’ve seen, you’ll usually find the best rates through Flying Find Blue). .
Having a supply of Flying Blue miles is always valuable if you think you will be sailing across the Atlantic in the years to come. Given that we haven’t seen a transfer bonus in a while, this might be worth a speculative transfer for some people.

The best card for collecting Citi ThankYou points
If you want to maximize the Citi ThankYou Points you can earn, you can’t beat that Citi Premier® map (Review). The annual fee card worth 95 USD offers a welcome bonus of up to 60,000 points and 3x points for restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets, air travel and hotels.
If you really want to maximize your points, it makes sense to purchase a card supplement with no annual fee:
Personally, I think the Citi Premier and Citi Double Cash combo is hard to beat as you earn 3x points in five categories and then 2x points on all other purchases.
Earning lots of Citi ThankYou points is easy with the right cards
Citi ThankYou offers a 25% bonus when you transfer points to Air France-KLM Flying Blue in the coming weeks. This could be great value for money especially if you are looking to redeem Air France KLM metal where Flying Blue has the best availability of awards.
Given how long it has been since we’ve seen a transfer bonus like this, I’m tempted to make a speculative transfer as I always find a way to redeem Flying Blue miles.
