We occasionally hear stories of fights between crew members, but I’ve never heard anything like it.
Fight between pilot and flight attendant at Donghai Airlines
The South China Morning Post reported a rather shocking situation that occurred on a Donghai Airlines flight. This happened in particular on DZ6297, the February 20 flight from Nantong to Xian. This ~ 730 mile flight was performed by a Boeing 737-800. In short, there was one attack that left a flight attendant with a broken arm and a pilot with a missing tooth.
So what happened According to reports, the pilot had to use the toilet during the flight. He noticed a first class passenger near the cockpit who also wanted to use the toilet and asked the passenger to wait in their seat. The passenger ignored the pilot’s instructions and when the pilot came out of the toilet he saw the passenger still standing there.
At that point, the pilot confronted the flight attendant who was in charge of the first class cabin, accusing him of “improperly doing his job and compromising flight safety”. An argument soon got out of hand and became physical. The fight was reportedly initiated by the pilot, which resulted in the flight attendant’s arm being broken and the pilot losing a tooth.
Both employees are now suspended
Over the weekend, the story of that flight went viral on Weibo, and now the airline had to respond. Donghai Airlines issued a statement on Sunday afternoon confirming the attack and stating that both employees have been suspended from their jobs:
“The company paid great attention to the flight crew disputes and conducted a rigorous internal review. The employees involved were suspended from their work for reasons of flight safety. “
A fight between a pilot and a flight attendant on a recent Donghai Airlines flight escalated to the point of a broken arm and a missing tooth. The unprofessionalism here is just mind-boggling, and I can’t even imagine what it must have been like for those who went through this situation.
Fortunately, both crew members are now suspended, but only after there has been an uproar on social media.
