The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card offers a potentially excellent new welcome bonus.
New welcome bonus for the IHG Premier Card
The annual fee of $ 89 IHG Premier Card is now offering a two-part welcome bonus if you spend $ 3,000 within the first three months:
- Earn 125,000 IHG Rewards Club points
- Earn a reward night Valid for accommodation that costs up to 40,000 points per night
For comparison: Previously, the card offered a bonus of up to 140,000 IHG Rewards Club points without an additional reward night. With the new bonus you will get 15,000 points less, but you will receive a free night certificate that is valid for accommodation with a price of up to 40,000 points, which is a significant improvement.
I used a free night certificate at the Crowne Plaza Changi
Why should you get the IHG Premier Card?
With my hotel strategy, IHG is not my primary hotel group, but I still find strategic value with the program. There are many reasons to have that IHG Premier Cardincluding:
- IHG Rewards Club Platinum status for the card only
- Every year an anniversary certificate for a free night, valid for accommodation that costs up to 40,000 points
- A fourth night free when redeeming the award
- A Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check credit every four years
For me, the annual free night certificate alone is more than justified, and everything else is the icing on the cake.

Yes, IHG has just switched to dynamic award pricing
A few days ago I wrote about how the IHG Rewards Club switched to dynamic award pricing without notice and how many more points are required for a free night. As I noted in this post, this is simply a devaluation.
As I wrote in this post, however, this does not change the value proposition of the IHG Premier Card, at least for me as of now. As I said, I mostly got the card for the free night anniversary certificate and IHG Rewards Club Platinum status.
I’ve just looked at all of the hotels I’ve redeemed these certificates at for the last three times and all of them still cost no more than 40,000 points on most dates.
While I don’t like these changes in terms of the overall value of the program, it doesn’t fundamentally change my perception of the program IHG Premier Card.
I used a free night certificate at InterContinental Johannesburg Airport
The IHG Premier Card has a phenomenal new welcome bonus of 125,000 IHG Rewards Club points as well as a free nighttime certificate upon completion of the minimum spend. This is an excellent offer if you don’t already have the card.
While I don’t consider the IHG Rewards Club program competitive with some other hotel loyalty programs, I find the annual free night certificate, platinum status, and fourth night free when redeeming awards to be more than the $ 89 annual fee justify.
Anyone planning to pick up the IHG Premier Card with this great bonus?
