A few weeks ago we learned that an Alila was coming to Napa Valley, California. Well the hotel started taking reservations (also with dots) as of today, so let’s check this out …
Las Alcobas becomes the Alila Napa Valley
In September 2020, Las Alcobas decided to leave Marriott. This was a Marriott Luxury Collection property in St. Helena, Napa Valley. At the time it wasn’t clear what the future would look like for this property, but we finally found out earlier this year – Las Alcobas will be part of the Alila Napa Valley and will open on March 15, 2021.
The 68-room hotel is an adults-only retreat. I’m curious to see how many changes have been made to this property in the six months or so since it closed. Maybe not much has changed at all, which would be perfectly fine with me.
You can read my review of Las Alcobas here.
Alila Napa Valley (from when it was Las Alcobas)
This is the third Alila property in the US and the third Alila property in California:
For those of you unfamiliar with the Alila brand, it is Hyatt’s luxury nature and environmentally conscious brand, and I would say it is roughly on par with Park Hyatt. So it’s a real luxury brand and not just “premium”.
This will be a fantastic addition as I loved the time I spent in Napa Valley. I had low expectations (as I’m not exactly a wine connoisseur) but enjoyed it very much – the scenery was beautiful, the people were friendly, and the food and drinks were great.

Redeem points in the Alila Napa Valley
Alila Napa Valley will be a Category 7 World of Hyatt property, which is Hyatt’s top tier. This means that free night redemptions cost the following number of points:
- A standard room costs 30,000 points per night
- A standard suite costs 48,000 points per night
- A Premium Suite costs 60,000 points per night
For what it’s worth, a standard room here is a room with a queen or two and a balcony that’s 440 square feet.
The standard suite here (also for the purposes of a Globalist Suite Upgrade Award) is the Junior Suite, which is between 830 and 1,035 square feet.
Then a Premium Suite is a property or vineyard view suite that ranges in size from 948 to 1,494 square feet.
For what it’s worth, prices in the Alila Napa Valley seem to hover between $ 550 and $ 1,200 a night before taxes for standard rooms. If you are booking a paid stay, I would recommend doing so through the Hyatt Privé program for extra perks like free breakfast, real estate credit, and more.
Why I am delighted that this hotel is becoming a Hyatt
Put simply, the World of Hyatt program is in a league of its own when it comes to guest recognition. That’s why I’m always excited when properties are converted to Hyatt brands. As a member of the World of Hyatt Globalist, I particularly like luxury goods in the US. The prices here are high so this is a good use of points, especially as a globalist member:
- All World of Hyatt members receive a discount on resort fees when they redeem points
- World of Hyatt Globalist members receive complimentary breakfast with all stays
- World of Hyatt Globalist members can use Suite Upgrade Awards to confirm an upgrade at the time of booking
- World of Hyatt Globalist members get free parking when they redeem points (although parking here is likely free anyway)
- World of Hyatt Globalist members can redeem points for Guest of Honor bookings, and members can pass their perks on to friends and family when they redeem points
Alila Napa Valley (from when it was Las Alcobas)
Bottom line
The Alila Napa Valley opens in just a few weeks and the hotel is taking reservations starting today. This is the third Alila property in the US and a phenomenal addition to the Hyatt portfolio. Can’t wait to return here one day.
When Las Alcobas left Marriott I was saddened that the only luxury property in the Napa Valley would no longer be. Little did I know it would only get better if this hotel became a Hyatt.
Anyone else excited about the Alila Napa Valley?
